[2003-03-31] Site Maintenance: What does it take to manage your website?
Every action has a beginning phase where you launch your activity, a middle period in which you must sustain and develop it, and a conclusion. Many people set up a website enthusiastically but then they find that they don't have the skills or knowledge to maintain and develop it. So, what are the challenges in this middle phase of a website's life and how can you meet them? Updating the site: The beauty of a website is that it is not static like a brochure or printed document. You can change it to reflect new products or new developments in your enterprise. You can launch new campaigns, and at any time you can add more content. The problem for some companies and individuals is that after they have paid a good amount of money to have their site built, they do not have any personnel who can make changes to the website, such as adding new text or photos etc. One solution to this is to make sure you have a good maintenance plan included in the contract or agreement you make your with your web designer, so that minor changes can be made by your original designer

[2003-03-31] How "Secure" Is YOUR Web Site?
A few days ago, an incident happened to me that has prompted the writing of this article. I'm sure that if this is an issue for me and one of my Web sites, it's an issue for many others. With my personal Web site, I use a nationally known Internet Host provider to host it. They've hosted my site for years, and I can't really complain about their services (except that you can rarely find a real "person" to talk to).

[2003-03-31] Putting Images on Your Web Site
Once upon a time, in the dark ages of the Early Internet, there were no images on the web pages (in fact, this is poetic - no images, on the web pages). There were just links. Hyperlinks, hyperlinks everywhere, and not an image to click. But as the Internet and the browsing technology improved, web developers were able to incorporate images, and as the HTML matured, images could also be used as Hyperlinks. And now some developers develop imageless web sites just as some "arty" filmmakers want to make black and white silent movies.

[2003-03-27] How PPC Can Help This Music Site
I use Overture, Sprinks and Google Ad Words, and my main keywords are: the guess who, harry manx, valdy and randy bachman, to name a few. They are generating traffic but sales are very low. So low I haven't bothered doing an ROI calculation. Your assessment would be most welcome.

[2003-03-27] Online Pawn Shop: Boosting Rolex Sales With PPC
I read in WebProNews that you might do this for some of us. We welcome anything you can possibly offer on our "unfortunately" FRAMED site. Our owner is just adamant that he wants to keep it that way. I've utilized the "no frames" tag on the index page and copy and paste the entire real page there as well as on the real page. I've cut down our keywords to about 12 of them...but we are a pawn shop and sell so many things that I just about CAN'T narrow them down to 3. We gotten listed in the engines all over the place for the public information pages I've created, and that helps...but I just can't seem to get much action on the ones like pre-owned Rolex watches and jewelry. Thanks for considering it.

[2003-03-27] Will We All Have To Pay To Get Listed?
I got your name through WebProNews. We currently have several domain names registered. However only a couple that are used everyday. We have never had to pay to advertise because I have a full time web page developer and she also does all the search engine submitting. We are always in the top 1-5 on all search engines (unheard of unless you pay). We have noticed that on overture it looks like we are going to have to pay to get listed. Is this something that everyone is going to have to do eventually? Maybe on all search engines or just the ones overture owns?

[2003-03-27] The Pay-Per-Click Strategy That Works
Here's a PPC keyword strategy you might want to consider: Phase I Use highly relevant keyword phrases of at least 2 words. Try to find as many as possible. The limitation here is that you will not be able to find them or get enough clicks on the ones you do find. In some industries these keywords will be sufficient to make your campaign successful and you will go no further. This is where most people have a problem, they are cannot find enough keywords and people are not finding your site. This is the biggest wall to overcome.

It's a fact of sales life. When people trust you, they buy from you. The imperative question has always been "How do I get people to trust me online"? [2003-03-18] 7 Great Readers' Sites
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of writing content reviews for a small number of web sites, some of which needed a bit of assistance. Following the review, I was overwhelmed with an avalanche of requests from other web site creators asking for content reviews of their sites. As I tackled the challenge of evaluating the number of sites submitted, I was pleasantly surprised to discover phenomenal services, products and ideas that truly deserve applause, but more importantly I discovered numerous sites that illustrate the use of good web site content.

[2003-03-18] Reciprocal Links: Quality is as important as Quantity
Link popularity, the number of incoming links to your website, plays an important part in determining your site's ranking in a search engine. But, before you rush off to try and get any and all sites to link to you there are a few things to consider, and one of them is that the quality of the links is as important as the quantity.

[2003-03-13] How To Protect Your Files >From Robots
Optimising website pages for the search engines without running into trouble at the very least causes most of us webmasters to keep our brain cells finely honed, and at worst induces massive migraines! One of the most common challenges for us all is how to present "clean", relevant and original content to a wide range of visitors.

[2003-03-12] the Google "Snippet" System in Action
Dear Dan, My name is Brandon Stone. I'm senior tech and webmaster for a company called Martin Yale Industries. We manufacture office and graphics equipment. I took over the company website about a year ago. It had previously been ignored for about five years. So, I went out and bought a copy of FrontPage and taught myself to build webs. I have been building for about 2 years now, and have had a lot of success in the search engines. Thanks to WebProNews, that is. Without WebProNews, I don't think that I would be anywhere near as keen as I am. I definitely don't think my company would be #1 for "desktop graphics equipment" in Google.

[2003-03-12] Getting More Sales From Your Order Page
It's the gold medal of e-commerce. Getting that coveted sale is what every online business owner hopes and prays for daily. It's why we fight for good search engine positioning. [2003-03-10] Unbiased Step-by-step Guide on Web-Hosting
No more speeches about importance of your own domain, no more talks about necessity of having paid hosting. If you think your brand domain name and stable hosting with a number of features and absence of ads are not worth, at least, $50-$150 per year, then you probably want to play games, rather than build online business.
